1. Julie Smith – Chair of Board (Proprietor)

Julie Smith BSc, PGCE, MA, MSc

Julie has many years of experience in Education. She has a first degree in Chemistry and Education, Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, Masters Degrees in Women’s Studies and Librarianship and Information Studies. She has also worked in a variety of teaching and learning environments, including Teaching English as a Foreign Language at a private school in Europe, Learning Resource Centre management at a Further Education College and Learning Resources and Systems management in the National Health Service. Julie is currently studying for a PhD in Education

As well as the Board chair Julie is also responsible for safeguarding.

2. Vicky Skelton – Head-teacher

Vicky Skelton , RNMH, BEd(Hons), NPQH

Vicky has been working with children and young people with additional and complex needs since 1987 and she is passionate about the role of education in transforming lives. She first trained as a nurse for people with learning difficulties, before going to Cambridge University and qualifying as an upper primary teacher in 1994. She has taught across all key stages for children with barriers to learning and complex needs. She was previously the Principal of the North Devon Academy, an all through, co-educational school for any child in the region out of school due to permanent exclusion, medical needs or exceptional circumstances.

3. Peter Birkett – Ambassador and Strategic Advisor

Pete has spent over 30 years in the state and private education sectors in both mainstream and Special Needs education. Starting as a lecturer and progressing to Principal and CEO before leaving to set up his own education consultancy company in 2013. In 2007 Pete pioneered the UKs first FE college academy sponsorship model – under his leadership he established a federation made up of a Post 16 Further Education College, two Secondary Schools, two Primary Schools and two 14-18 academies. On leaving the organisation in 2013 the two previously failing Secondary Schools were named number 1 and number 3 in the town and the College number 1 in the Country for 16-18 year olds with a qualification success rate of 94%. As a result of this pioneering move, today there are over 45 Colleges in England sponsoring academies.

4. Seth Gent – School Bursar and Company Secretary
Seth Gent, BA (Hons), PGDip, PGCert, CSBM

Seth has 23 years experience of working in the independent special school sector. His most recent post was as Bursar, Clerk to the Governors and Company Secretary.

5. Collete Madine – Business Advisor

Colette has over 30 years as a professional business woman and is currently the owner of her own private finance company based in Pall Mall, London. Colette has a passion for helping young people achieve their career goals and delighted to be a Director on the HHHS Board
